The First Aid Training

In an effort to equip the Kenyatta University Catholic Community with life-saving skills, the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (CJPC), in collaboration with the First Aid Group, organized a First Aid Training session on the 10th of October, 2023, in Archbishop Ndingi Hall. The session was led by the experienced and knowledgeable Dr. Mwaura. 

A major highlight of the event was the impressive turnout, with approximately 110 enthusiastic students in attendance. The overwhelming response showcased the Kenyatta University Catholic Community’s eagerness to learn and take a proactive stance in providing immediate assistance during emergencies. Participants were rewarded with certificates of participation, acknowledging their commitment to acquiring essential life-saving skills. Some of the main topics covered during the session included:

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Participants learned how to perform CPR, a vital skill that can make a significant difference in saving lives during cardiac emergencies.

Nose Bleeding: The training provided insights into managing and assisting individuals experiencing nosebleeds, ensuring that attendees could effectively respond to this common occurrence.

Burns: Participants gained knowledge on first aid for burns, including the appropriate measures to reduce pain and prevent infection in burn victims.

Choking: The training addressed techniques to dislodge foreign objects from a choking person’s airway.

Epilepsy: Participants were taught how to support individuals during epileptic seizures, making the environment safe, and offering assistance.

Basic Life Support: This covered the essentials of sustaining life in emergencies, including assessing vital signs, performing rescue breathing, and administering first aid until professional medical help arrives.

Poisoning: Participants learned how to recognize and provide immediate care for poisoning cases.

Wounds: participants were trained on proper wound care and infection prevention to ensure that injuries are managed effectively.

Health Topics: The training covered health topics that contribute to community well-being and prevention.

The First Aid Training session left a great impact on the Kenyatta University Catholic Community. Participants now possess the knowledge and skills to act as first responders in emergencies.
