VIRTUAL WELCOME NOTE FOR FIRST YEARS 2020/2021

In the name of the Father …

My name is Fr Boniface Kariuki the Catholic Chaplain here at Kenyatta University. Welcome to KU the University of your Choice. In an effort to offer a holistic and integrated growth, the university has provided an opportunity for spiritual formation. We have four Chaplains: Protestant, Seventh Day Adventist, Muslim and Catholic all working closely with the Directorate of Student Affairs.

The Kenyatta University Catholic Community (KUCC) domiciled at Christ the Teacher Catholic Chaplaincy, is the home for ALL. Our Motto is “We are one family.” We are a diverse community made of students, faculty, staff, residents and neighbors called by the Triune God to preach and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have our mission and vision statements as you can see on the banner.

I welcome you to join KUCC for prayer & worship and to participate in our activities:

  1. Small Christian Communities (jumuiyas) which meet weekly
  2. Movements, organizations and clubs which have weekly meetings: YCS, Legion of Mary, Pro-life, Evangelizers of the Sick, Evangelizers of the Word, Acolytes, Ushers, First Aiders, Dance troupe, National Movement for Catholic Students, Guidance and Counseling group, Catholic Justice & Peace Commission (CJPC) among others.
  3. Choir which sings so wells in the Liturgy
  4. Catechism classes for those who may have missed any of the sacraments: Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation.
  5. Celebration of Mass:

NB – This schedule may change in line with Covid -19 protocols

  1. Sunday Masses :
    1. Ruiru Campus – 7.00 -8.30 am
    2. 1st Mass Main campus – 8.30 – 10.00 am
    3. 2nd Mass Main campus – 10.00 – 12.30 pm
  2. Weekday Masses at the main campus:
    1. Mon – Thurs at 1.00 pm
    2. Fridays – 6.00 pm
    3. Saturday – 8.00 am
  • Sacrament of Confession
    1. Mondays to Thursdays – 12.00 – 1.00 pm
    2. Fridays – 5.00- 6.00 pm
  1. Adoration and Benediction: Saturday 7 am
  2. The Rosary Prayer every day before Mass
  3. Other Activities at the Chaplaincy

We organize activities both in the first and second semester. Eg. Orientation for the first years, Retreats, workshops, career talks, charity work, talent show, African Sunday, KU Interfaith Service, Outreaches

The Chaplain is available in the office for Consultations, Guidance and counseling.

 

  1. Church Office : Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9.00 am – 12 noon
  2. BSSC – DSA office: Wednesday & Friday 9.00 am – 12 noon

 

  1. Evangelization through media:

Radio: Our students host a catholic show on KU Radio 99.9 FM every Sunday 7.00 to 9.00 am.

The Chaplain works with a well selected Church leadership drawn from all the jumuiya for the smooth running of the activities at the chaplaincy.
