CATHOLIC JUSTICE AND PEACE COMMISSION COMMITTEE

Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, (CJPC) committee is one of the committees in Christ The Teacher Parish. It is headed by a moderator who is appointed by the chaplain with the help of the parish executive and he or she is also a member in the parish executive. The committee is made up of the following people:

  • The committee moderator
  • Two representatives from each small Christian community in the church, the two should be a male and a female.
  • Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) representative for young Christian student (YCS), Prolife and ushers.

THE COMMITTIE`S OBJECTIVES:

  1. To create awareness of trending issues in the society.
  2. To ensure newly elected CJPC representatives are trained and equipped with information concerning peace and justice so that they can be the ambassadors of parish and carry out CJPC activities effectively.
  3. To advice, encourage and work with other groups involved in justice and peace.
  4. To cooperate with other institutions, churches and peoples in the spirit of Christian unity.

 

The committee organizes a number of events in the parish; the events are as follows:

  1. FIRST AID TRAINING

All CJPC committee members are first aid club members by default. So in every academic year the committee works hand in hand with the first aid club to organize first aid training for all parishioners, where they invite professionals on first aid to train the parishioner on basic first aid concepts, such as how to help somebody who has fainted, how to help somebody who is bleeding, how to help yourself or somebody else in case of a road accident or any accident, etc.

  1. PARISH WORKSHOP

This is an event where the committee invites a speaker to come and talk to and motivate the parishioners about the trending issues in the society. Like last year we were privileged to have talk on stress, how to avoid and how to manage stress.  The event as a great impact on the parishioners given that, most of them are youths since most of the rising issues affects the youth directly.

 

 

 

  1. PARISH CHARITY WORK

This is an event where the church joins and celebrates with the needy in the society. It is the mandate of CJPC committee to organize and make sure the activity is successful. In each academic year we go to different places such as, hospitals, children homes, streets, prisons… In the academic year 2018/2019 we were able to join the street families at MLANGO KUBWA IN MATHARE, about two hundred parishioners attended. Where we worshipped with them in singing and praying (KANISA MTAANI), taught them some simple English, Kiswahili and Mathematics, played with them, groomed them, cooked and ate with the street families.

NOTE: This activity can be supported by well-wishers even if they are not parishioners at Kenyatta University Catholic Community.

 

Other events include: 1. CJPC training where we invite a CJPC leader from the diocese to train and guide newly elected members.

  1. Lenten campaign, each year the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), writes a small book on certain issues in the society and it is the mandate of CJPC committee to mobilize parishioners at Christ The Teacher parish on the
