THE LITURGY OF THE MASS
Mass-is the central act of worship of the Roman Catholic Church or just Christian Religious Service.
The mass consists of two principal Rites:
- The liturgy of the word
- The liturgy of the Eucharist.
Liturgy of the word includes:
- First reading
- Responsorial reading
- Second reading
- Gospel acclamation
- Homily
- Profession of faith
- Prayer of the faithful
Liturgy of the Eucharist includes:
- Offering and presentation of bread and wine at the altar
- Consecration of bread and wine by the priest during the Eucharistic prayer
- Reception of the consecrated elements in Holy Communion.
Parts of mass
- Introductory Rites: includes the opening prayer, the penitential rite, Kyrie eleison (Lord, have mercy) and Gloria (Glory to God in the highest)
- Liturgy of the word which includes the readings, Gospel Homily and prayers of the faithful.
- Liturgy of the Eucharist which includes the Eucharistic prayer, the our father and Holy Communion.
- Concluding Rites includes the concluding prayer and dismissal.
