Divine Mercy Sunday 2020
Readings : Acts 2:42-47. Psalm 118. 1st Peter 1:3-9. John 20:19-31.
“Recieve the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven.”
The first Christians as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles lived in fellowship, praying and breaking the Bread together. They shared all they had in common. The Lord blessed them as the number of the witnesses and the baptised grew every day.
St. Peter reminds us that it is through God’s Mercy that we have been saved. Though there may trials and sufferings through Faith we will be saved. The disciples for FEAR of the Jews are LOCKED up in a room. The resurrected Jesus appears to them and gives them peace. He also grants them power to FORGIVE sins through the Holy Spirit. Thus instituting the Sacrament of Penance.
In the Church of Christ we Recieve the Mercy of God in :
●the act of Creation
●the Prophetic teachings
●the Incarnation
●the Passion & death of Christ
●the Resurrection
●the Mission / Witness – Preaching.
Jesus invites all the baptised to be
‘merciful as the heavenly Father.
Today let us wake up and be actively involved in the Mercy of God.
1. Through deeds / works – Corporal & Spiritual acts of mercy. Visiting the sick and prisoners, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, burying the dead.
Or 2. Through Words of encouragement, kind words to the sick, keeping in touch with those in need virtually, etc
Or 3. Through Prayer. In these days when we cannot hug each let us hug those in need through prayer.
May the Merciful God have mercy on us that the darkness brought by COVID-19 may be dispersed sooner than later
Wishing you a fruitful DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY.
“Jesus I trust in you”
