Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday 2020

Alleluia alleluia this is the day that the Lord has made let us rejoice it and be glad, alleluia.
Readings: Acts 10:34, 37-4:3., Psalm 118. Colossians 3:1-4 & John 20:1-9.

Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. He has defeated sin and death. We can now sing Alleluia alleluia alleluia.
The Easter Vigil is a very special night. It is the night that the Children of Israel were saved from slvery in Egypt. In effect God was restoring the original nature of the world and man. He created everything and put an order and a perfect rhythm. Adam and Eve interfered (and continues even today) with the environment and themselves through the pride of sin.

The Lord sent Prophets to save man but he stubbornly refused to cooperate. In fact some of the prophets were killed. In the final days (as we read from the letter to the Hebrews) God sent His only begotten Son. Jesus came to his own people but they did not receive him. (John 1:11) They crucified him on a Cross and buried him in a tomb.
Easter Vigil is that night when Jesus comes out of the tomb victorious: the tomb cannot detain the Master of the universe. The immediate sign is the empty tomb. In today’s Gospel we see Mary Magdaelene reporting this to Peter and John. The two run to the tomb. It is empty. In John 20:8 – the beloved disciple went in, he saw and he believed.
Jesus resurrects and appears to the Apostles and disciples. But the important lesson today is
1. to Go in, See an Believe that Jesus is resurrected to save humanity.
2. to let the resurrection of Jesus give us Hope.
3. to forge ahead without Fear “usiogope, usiogope, usiogope tulia imara katika maombi”
4. to pray that the darkness of COVID-19 be defeated together with the many darknesses of pride, unfaithfulness, corruption, selfisness, jealousy,…
May the blessings of Easter be with all of you, as you continue keeping safe. Let the Church that is your heart, your home and family stand strong in Faith.
May almighty God bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
